BIPV Solar Panels

Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) are photovoltaic materials that are used to replace conventional building materials in parts of a building such as the roof, skylights, or facades. They are increasingly being incorporated into the construction of new buildings as a principal or ancillary source of electrical power, although existing buildings may be retrofitted with BIPV modules as well. The advantage of integrated BIPV over standard PV systems is that the initial cost can be offset by reducing the amount spent on building materials and labor that would normally be used to construct the part of the building that the BIPV modules replace. This enable building owners to save on construction costs of new buildings while at the same time generate a portion of their own electricity.

BIPV can be provided for public art, canopy, skylight, curtain wall, facade and spandrel applications. Some applications require insulated glass. QES works with the architect and engineer to meet their design requirements for a power generating weathering skin. Our largest laminator allows producing BIPV panels up to 80" x 140''(3600mm x 2050mm). We can supply custom colors of cells, back glass design to give the designer a real palet of options to make the building memorable.

  • SunSlate 125

    sunslate-125-thumbjpg

SunSlate 125 , the original SUNSLATES™ has 2 rows of 3 125mm (5" cells) monocrystalline PV cells. Depending on the cell type it averages 13-14Watts per each. It takes 77 to make 9.3 Meters square of roof or 1kW of potential energy. This smaller size SUNSLATES™ does a good job of following the architectural lines of a complex roof since its foot print is only 1.3 square foot. It appears like a glossy slate on the roof and often disappears in to the roofscape. We can supply full and half slates with glass to give a more edge to edge look to the roof.
